Summer vacation is peak season for Taiwanese travelers going abroad, visiting relatives, or studying overseas. However, many only discover their passports need renewing when checking the validity right before departure. To spare citizens the hassle of visiting multiple offices to get the necessary documents for passport renewal, the “MyData Digital Service Personalization Platform” of the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) has partnered with the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), to launch the “Conditional Online Passport Renewal” service. Through it, eligible citizens can retrieve necessary application documents via the platform with a single click, removing the need to visit multiple agencies to gather physical documents. Applicants can easily complete the process online from home and collect their new passports after 10 to 14 working days, ensuring a smooth start to their summer trips abroad.

MODA stated that the MyData platform has recently received positive feedback from the public, and Mr. Fan, who is planning a family trip for summer vacation, is among those who have benefited from this convenient service. Mr. Fan recently realized his passport was close to expiring. Busy with work, he worried he wouldn’t have time to visit the Bureau of Consular Affairs, and feared long summer crowds would mean waiting hours in line. After searching for related information, he chose to use the online application service provided by MODA and the Bureau of Consular Affairs, MOFA. After verifying his identity and authorizing the MyData platform to retrieve the necessary documents, he completed the application in no time. Mr. Fan happily shared that while he expected passport renewal to be very time-consuming, he was surprised at how fast he was able to retrieve the necessary information through MyData. He noted that he no longer had to run around gathering documents, he could simply apply online and pick up his new passport when ready. He even said, “MyData is amazing! I was able to complete the application at home using my computer; it was very quick and convenient.”

MODA would like to remind citizens that summer vacation is the peak season for passport applications, and online renewal through the “Conditional Online Passport Renewal System” (https://epass.boca.gov.tw/Default.html) is available to any Taiwanese citizen aged 18 or older with a registered residence whose passport is expired or has less than one year of validity remaining, provided the passport has not been lost and no personal details have changed. Through MODA’s MyData platform, applicants can seamlessly access required National ID, household registration, and passport records. This eliminates the need to stand in line or visit government agencies in person, offering the most efficient method to complete the application.

Applicants can collect their new passports in person 10 working days (14 working days for Kinmen, Matsu, and Penghu) after submitting the application by presenting their original National ID at their chosen collection location (Bureau of Consular Affairs or any of MOFA’s offices), ensuring a smooth and pleasant travel experience.
